‘People fear to drive on it’
The Sopore By-pass Bridge which was completed in 23 years has developed wide cracks, sending fear waves among the passengers and transporters.
The 226-meter long bridge was inaugurated in 2015 by then chief minister late Mufti Sayeed when it was completed after 23 years. Only after year down the line, the bridge has developed cracks, and the authorities are allowing the traffic to move in it partially.
The locals of Badambagh Sopore said that the concerned agency is working to recover the bridge but these are minor changes which will not reduce the risk of taking lives.
“If it took years to complete the construction the bridge should not be damaged, it indicates the concerning authority has used sub-standard material,” Nasir Ahmad, a local told.
“We fear to travel on the bridge as it can cause a major accident,” he added.
A driver Altaf Ahmad said that it was good decision to construct the bridge but it is sad to see it cracking after a year.
“The government should take this issue seriously and take action against the agency that constructed it,” he added. (KNS)
