Clashes broke out between security forces and protesters in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district after Friday prayers today, when police stopped a procession heading towards the main market.
Witnesses said that police resort to tear gas shelling to stop protesters who were attempting to march from Markazi Jamia Masjid area to main Chowk and main bazaar area of the town.
The protesters hurled stones at the forces deployed in the area, which forces shopkeepers downed their shutters while traffic disappeared from the roads due to the chaos.
Meanwhile reports added that clashes later spread to Batpora and Shah Dargah Chowk of the town where scores of youth appeared on roads and started protests against the police action on students. (PTK)
