Investigations on: IGP Jammu
Despite assurances from the government of securing women rights, a minor rape victim in Jammu is striving hard to get justice against an influential police officer, who has allegedly started concocting frivolous stories to further degrade the victim.
The minor victim, who had cried in public domain for justice has also requested the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for intervention.
The victim, while talking to media in Jammu had alleged that she was last year raped by Inspector Vijay Choudhary, SHO of Bagh-e-Bahu police station, after she visited the police station to give food and clothes to her mother, lodged there.
“After the incident, I filed a complaint with SSP, Jammu, but he took no action against the SHO,” she alleged and said, “Thereafter, I moved the court which took cognizance of my complaint under section 354-A of RPC against the SHO. During the course of investigation, my statement was recorded under section 164 of CrPC,” she said.
The victim alleged that the SHO used to intercept her every time she returned home after attending the court hearing. “I have also filed a complaint with the DGP also but he is yet to act on it due to which I have lost my faith in police department which is shielding the guilty SHO owing to his influence,” she alleged.
“The goons and police officials sent to my residence by the SHO first offered me some money for withdrawing the compliant, but when I refused, they threatened me of dire consequences in case I don’t follow their diktats,” she claimed.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu SD Singh Jamwal told that the inquiry in this regard is ongoing. “Yes, some newspapers have carried the news item over it but it looks like vendetta. The investigation into the matter is on,” he said. (KNS)
