Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a youth for circulating morphed photographs of Baramulla girl.
“On 7th of February 2017 one girl namely Zainab resident of Old Town Baramulla lodged a written complaint in Police Station Baramulla stating there in that one of her friends with whom she had shared her pictures has misused them and circulated those on social media after they fell apart on some issue”, a police spokesman in a statement issued to GNS said.
“She also alleged that some of those picture have been photo-shopped and morphed to put her life in danger by falsely portraying her as informer of forces”.
Based on her complaint a case FIR number 13/2017 under sections of 354-D, 506 RPC was registered in Police Station Baramulla and investigation was taken up, the spokesman said.
“During the course of investigation it surfaced that one Abrar Ahmad Mantoo son of Raqeeb Ahmad Mantoo resident of Hatmura Mattan, Anantnag had uploaded these photographs on Facebook and were subsequently shared by some people on Facebook and WhatsApp”.
The accused has been arrested and those people involved in circulating these photographs on social media have also been identified and will be dealt as per law, the spokesman said. (GNS)
