Arrest 2 persons with Charras, Fukii, army’s CSD cards; people urge cops to wipe out mafia
Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested two persons along with drugs worth lakhs of rupees at Drugmulla area as a part of its ongoing drive against the drug menace in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Addressing a press conference, Kupwara’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shamsheer Hussain said that police has launched massive drive to eradicate the drug menace in the district some three months ago.
“From last couple of weeks special police teams have been constituted in the district who have been asked to intensify the vigil on the drug peddlers across the district,” SSP said.
A number of complaints were received from Drugmulla, Anderhama, Muqam-i-Shahwali villages and other adjoining areas regarding the youth consuming charras and other drugs, he said.
“Accordingly, a police party headed by In-charge Police Post Dragmulla Zahoor launched a crackdown against the persons indulging in the menace or are involved in this trade,” the SSP according to agency.
Yesterday, acting on a tip off, the police team raided at a shop at Fakeerpora Bazar in Drugmulla area, SSP said.
“In the raid, 3 Kilograms of Charas, 1 Kilograms of Fukki, 57 strips of tablets, 300 grams poppy straw and about rupees 7000 was recovered on their instance”.
In this connection, he said, two persons namely Faisal Ahmad Mir S/O Gh Ahmad Mir R/O Anderhama and Mohd Ramzan Dar S/O Gh Qadir R/O Chack Drugmulla have been arrested.
The SSP said that one more person—a kingpin namely Fayaz Ahmad Mir S/O Gh Rasool Mir R/O Fakirpora, Drugmulla continues to evade arrest.
He said that a man hunt has been launched to arrest the kingpin of the gang as he continuous to evade the arrest.
“More arrest are expected so as to bust the whole racket which are involving the youth of the area”, SSP said.
“Besides drugs and Rs 7000 cash, seven CSD canteen cards have also been recovered on their instance and as per their confession, these cards were used to get various items at cheap rates from various army canteens in the district and subsequently they used to sell these products in open market earning huge profits”, SSP said, adding that the issue will be taken with the concerned army authorities.
He said that a case under FIR no. 10/2017 under section 8/20 NDPS act has been registered in this regard.
“During last 03 months the special team has recovered large quantity of banned drugs and arrested 10 drug peddlers/sellers of banned drugs”, he said.
“The SSP also appealed general public for cooperation. People are requested to inform police about such illicit activities so that we will together save our society from the menace of drugs and this illicit trade”, SSP said.
Meanwhile, locals while hailing the police action urged its top brass to ensure that all these accused people are dealt with sternly and that they should not be released under political or any other pressure.
“Because then entire network gets revived and they become more bold in carrying this illicit trade which essentially consumes youth who are actually nation builders”, the eminent residents said.
They also urged police to reach out to the roots of this menace and ensure that it’s eradicated once and for all.
The locals also urged the authorities to launch special de-addiction camps so that students and other youth, who were swayed by the drug peddlers, are brought back to the main stream and helped to lead a normal life away from drug menace. (GNS)
