Police in Bandipora town resorted to aerial firing and tear gas shelling soon after Friday prayer when people tried to assemble in the main Bandipora Chowk.
Soon after the prayers were over, scores of people tried to hold protest in main Chowk however police came and dispersed the protestors which led to clashes in the area.
People engaged police near Nowpora, Peer Masjid and later in Neberpora areas.
The clashes turned severe when a police party was wedged by angry youth and the men in uniform fired many shots in air.
Later police resorted to heavy tear gas shelling to disperse the assembled people in the market.
Meanwhile drivers in Saderkote area of Bandipora have complained that few unidentified youth early today damaged the vehicles (Buses) parked on the Srinagar-Bandipora road.
They said few masked youth who threatened drivers in the locality not to ply abused the drivers and damaged over one dozen buses.
