Former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma breathed his last at his residence in Jammu on Thursday.
He was 90 and he had not been keeping well for past some time, reported The Indian Express.
Sharma was Deputy Chief Minister in the PDP-Congress coalition government formed by then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed after the 2002 assembly elections.
He is survived by six sons, daughters-in-law and grand children.
Governor N. N. Vohra has expressed grief over the sad demise of Mr Mangat Ram Sharma, former Deputy Chief Minister, whom he had known for many years.
In a message of condolence the Governor has prayed for the peace to the departed soul and conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family.
Chief Minister, Ms Mehbooba Mufti has condoled the demise of veteran politician and former Deputy Chief Minister, Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma who passed away today.
The Chief Minister while paying tributes to the veteran leader hailed his contribution in different capacities to the people of the State during his public life. She said Pandit Mangat Ram had great concern for the poor and downtrodden people irrespective of caste, creed, colour, religion or region.
The Chief Minister visited the residence of late Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma here this afternoon to offer personal condolences to the bereaved family. She prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
