Police have arrested and top government official for stealing Service Books of employees in Handicrafts Department in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The accused have been identified as Assistant Director Handicrafts Lateef Ahmed Shah who served in the district in 2014-15 and is presently posted in Baramulla district.
Station House Officer Kulgam Irshad Ahmed confirmed it and told news agency CNS that they acted after a complaint was filed by Handicrafts Departments that Service Books of employees are missing in the department. “During the investigation, some of the employees raised finger on the previous Assistant Director and accordingly he was arrested. During questioning he admitted his role and we have recovered some of the Service Books from him so far,” he said.
The employees alleged that the accused was forcing them to pay bribe and after drawing salary he even charged commission from them. “He stole the Service Books of those employees who refused to grease his palm,” they said.
“We have registered a case vide FIR number 121/2016 under section 420, 467 against the accused and investigation has been going on,” Station House Officer Irshad Ahmed said. (CNS)
