Thousands of liters of drinking water are wasted at Manzpora Qalamabad in Langate Constituency of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on daily basis. Pipeline carrying water to the residential localities and Handwara town has developed cracks at many places but the authorities are taking no measures to repair these cracks, resulting in the loss of drinking water.
Locals said that despite repeated requests the Department has not acted so far and is least bothered about plugging the leakage.
“Due to continuous leakage, the Chotipora Nowgam road has virtually turned into a stream creating problems for the commuters. The round the clock leakage of water has affected residential houses, fields, gardens, orchards, trees and roads,” they said.
When contacted Chief Engineer PHE Mr Ghulam Muhammad Bhat assured that the leakage will be stopped without any delay.
