Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir has strongly condemned the attempts of Government of India (GoI) aimed at “promoting the RSS agenda” of eliminating the religious identity of Indian Muslims by implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
In a statement issued, Jama’at has said that it has happened for the first time in the history of India that any Central Government has taken an open stand against the Muslim Personal Law (MPL) and showed determination to implement UCC.
“Government of India is aggressively working to realize the RSS agenda of creating India into a Hindu Rashtra and for that religious identity of Indian Muslims is being targeted,” the statement said.
The statement added, “Muslims of India, like Muslims living anywhere in the world, cannot tolerate any interference in their religious affairs”.
“Muslim Personal Law is not only the legal protection afforded to 20 crore Muslims living across India, it also reflects the aspirations of Indian Muslims to live and conduct their personal affairs in accordance with their religion while living in India,” the statement said.
