On 9 Moharram Tuesday 2016, many processions were taken out from different parts of the city, out of major six processions, two were retaliated by teargas shells, in which many youths got injured, the processions that were retilated by teargas shelling. In Khanka Shamaswari, Shia and Sunni together tried to take the procession out, as procession reached near Gandhi College, police shooted many shells on the procession, the people didn’t run away and sat down on the road, many youths again recollected themselves near the Fire Station and took the procession, police could not stop them from there, till then many youths had also arrived from different areas, from Zadibal, Dal, Hassanabad, Muniwar, Nowpora, Gowekadal, Habakadal, Fathekadal areas, then procession went smoothly to its destination at Babapora Habakadal, not even a single stone was thrown at the police, still police shooted teargas shells on the mourners.
After it another procession of Muharram was taken out from Gouwkadal, Maisuma, and police behaved in the same manner but again Shia and Sunni unity became a best epitome of brotherhood, and they succeeded in talking the procession out, in Gowekadal intense Zaingeer Zaini was done by the youths that helped them to take the procession out to its destination. Many people from different civil societies have condemned the cowardly act of the police, no stone-pelting took place there.
Another procession was taken out at 3 p.m from Mandibal Nowshara to Hajisahib Nabdipora, in which thousands of people participated, the procession ended peacefully without any violence or teargas shelling.
Tomorrow, on 10 Muharram, on 12 October Wednesday, the biggest procession of mourning is taken out from different districts and places, the biggest processions are taken from Srinagar and Budgam districts.
In Srinagar the Ashura will be taken out from Abi Guzar Lal Chowk to Mir Shaman Din Iraqi, Zadibal at about 9 a.m in the morning. And from Gulshanbagh, Botakadal to Mir Shaman Din Iraqi Zadibal at about 10 a.m in the morning, the extraordinary arrangements have been made to disallow the mourning processions of Ashura. From the sources, the curfew has been clamped in the areas where Shias dominance is witnessed.
