Government forces on Tuesday tear gassed a Muharram procession in Srinagar while as another same kind of procession exhibited Shia-Sunni unity.
Forces fired tear smoke shells at a Muharram procession near Shamaswari area of Srinagar however despite heavy shelling the mourner did not stop their journey and succeeded in reaching Habba Kadal.
Reports said that Shia-Sunni unity was exhibited during another Muharram procession at Alamgari Bazar of old city.
The procession was addressed by separatist and Shia leader, Masroor Abbas Ansari. Amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the participants also raised slogans favouring unity among different sects of Muslims especially Shia and Sunni.
Pertinently, traditional Muharram processions are banned in Srinagar since 1990.
