The government forces on Sunday fired teargas canisters on schoolchildren who were protesting in Kani Pora area of south city against the government decision to hold their annual exams next month.
The students, holding schoolbags on their backs, were intercepted by Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel of state police near the Kani Pora railway bridge where the children had staged a peaceful sit-in.
Condemning the killing of 12-year-old schoolboy in Eidgah locality on Friday, the children voiced slogans against the government in general and education minister in particular.
“Killings and schooling cannot go together… This government has been risking our lives and we won’t appear in exams under prevalent conditions,” the protesting kids said while raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.
As the kids denied to disperse police resorted to teargas shelling. The tiny tots were subsequently chased away by armored vehicles.
The SOG personnel, however, prevented journalists from capturing the incident in their cameras. “You better leave the place as we have orders not to allow any of you take pictures. Nobody can take out cameras and that is final,” a police official at the scene told media persons.
