Seeking suggestion from media fraternity for a possible peaceful protest against the day-to-day suppressive methods to curb the media in Kashmir, a journalist group under Jammu and Kashmir Young Journalist Association (JKYJA) today condemned the media gag and three months continuous restrictions on mobile internet and prepaid mobile services.
The meeting was attended by Bilal Furqani, Majid Kapra, Rameez Makhdoomi and others. The participants expressed dismay over the government’s decision to continue the ban on Mobile Internet and Prepaid Mobile services.
They said on one hand tall claims of ‘Digital India’ are being made on different platforms, but on the other hand freedom of expression was completely restricted in Kashmir, adding, it was unfortunate on part of government to ban mobile internet and prepaid mobile services which is mandatory for a scribe in present modern times to perform their professional duties.
The participants also condemned the forces action not allowing media persons to perform their professional duties. They said journalists were harassed in nook and corner of the Valley during the present turmoil in Kashmir.
Commenting over the ban on the publication of a local daily the meeting said it was highly deplorable that the ruling dispensation was indulging in such activities which were totally anti-democratic and amounts to muzzle the voice of people in Kashmir.
The participants on the occasion appealed media fraternity to send their suggestion for a possible peaceful protest against the government’s suppressive action on Media in Kashmir.
