Ummat-e-Islami Jammu Kashmir Monday alleged that with the start of uprising in Kahsmir, the government is harassing the party leaders.
As per a statement, Ummat-e-Islami said that Jammu and Kashmir government is continuously hounding and muzzling the leaders, arresting them across South Kashmir while its Chairman Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir continues to be under detention since July 8.
According to party spokesperson, Police on Monday served notice to another Ummat e Islami leader, Moulana Sajad Hashmi, and his property will be sealed within next two days, a party spokesman said.
“The notice was served by Kakapora police station in Pulwama district as Moulana Hashmi was very active in Pulwama and Shopian, working for the party. He organized and addressed large number of rallies during the last three months of the civilian uprising,” the spokesman said.
The spokesman quoted Mirwaiz Yasir condemning the police action, saying that “the continuous arrest and harassment of leaders is proof of animosity by administration towards the Ummat e Islami.”
“All Ulemas must speak truth in and outside the mosques. The government is one by one putting every Ummat e Islami leader in jail for speaking for the genuine rights of people of Kashmir. This only shows frustration of government mainly in South Kashmir, where leaders like Moulana Hashmi and others have been working selflessly,” Mirwaiz Yasir was quoted saying.
Mirwaiz Yasir also strongly condemned the banning of “Kashmir Reader” newspaper and the burning of paddy crops, buildings and vehicles in Kulgam district by Indian troops. “This is how India responds to people’s uprising and it is only deaf and dumb approach of the state government. Youth associated with the Ummat e Islami are also being harassed and arrested,” he said.
Pertinently, among several leaders and members, a popular leader of Ummat e Islami, Moulana Sarjan Barkati was also arrested on Saturday and booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Mirwaiz Yasir said that Moulana Barkati met this inhumane treatment by police and now we are expecting same against Moulana Hashmi and others. (CNS)
