Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) today condemned the setting ablaze of rice crops in several villages and termed Jammu and Kashmir as target of worst kind of Indian colonialism.
DFP secretary general Moulana Abdullah Tari said on one hand innocent civilians are killed and on other side crops are being destroyed after vandalizing properties.
“Though Indian forces have been perpetrating worst kind of crimes in Jammu Kashmir from last 69 years and have destroyed properties worth billions, but now all this is done under a well-planned strategy. This is an attack on the economy of the people of the State,” he said in a statement.
Tari said it is actually a tradition during wars that forces resort to destroying properties including crops of people but the example of a state resorting to such anti-people measures cannot be found anywhere.
“It seems the champions of ‘agenda of alliance’ have given the armed forces a free license to do whatever they wish. We are witnessing each and every measure by the so-called administration aimed at suppressing and cowing down the people but the puppet rulers must bear in mind that such tactics won’t break our resolve to fight for our rights and we will continue our struggle till the achievement of freedom,” Tari said.
The DFP secretary general expressed serious concern over the continuous police detention of party chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah saying though his health has been deteriorated to very much extent but his resolve is strong.
Giving details of Shah’s detention, Tari said: “Since Shah Sahib was released from jail in 2011, he has been detained (either under house arrest or in police station) for a period of 3 years and 26 days. During this time, he was barred from offering 214 Friday and 11 Eid prayers. Since 2015, he remained under detention for a period of 201 days and prevented from offering 42Friday and 2 Eid prayers. Similarly, in 2016, out of 281 days, Shah Sahib was barred from offering 38 Friday and two Eid prayers. Then with the beginning of the anti-India uprising, he was arrested on July 14and detained at Raj Bagh police station,” he said.
Tari while paying tributes to Shabir Ahmad Shah for his firm resolve and steadfastness on his stand of Azadi said till date the pro-freedom leader has spent 29 years and six months in jail.
“His (Shah’s) detention is unlawful and unconstitutional. During his detention period, many of his relatives passed away but he wasn’t allowed to attend their last rites. He wasn’t even allowed to have a proper medical check-up after he suffered a cardiac arrest. We demand immediate release of Shabir Ahmad Shah as keeping him continuously detained amounts to playing with his health,” Moulana said.
