Police foils AIP’s UN march,12 injured, 150 detained
At least six protestors sustained injuries and near about 150 protestors were arrested by police along with Er Rasheed while police foiled an AIP march towards UN Offices in Srinagar today. Hundreds of protestor defying police restrictions started a march from Regal Chowk towards UN Offices Sonawar carrying black flags and banners and shouting slogans in favour of Plebiscite.
However, a large contingent of police and paramilitary forces led by SP East stopped the protestors near Sher-i-Kashmir park and used force to disperse the protestors. Police not only hurdled abuses at Er Rasheed and other protestors but also dragged them ruthlessly on the roads. In the scuffle with the police twelve persons including Imtiyaz Alam, Mohammad Rafiq Malik, Ghulam Hassan Mir, showket Ahmad Pandit, Fayaz Ahmad Reshi, Nazir Ahmad War got critically injured.
Police used force and dragged the protestors including Er Rasheed and lodged them in Kothi Bagh and other police stations. Before being arrested, Er Rasheed while talking to media said that today’s protest march towards UN Offices was aimed at drawing focus of world community not to listen the lies of Sushma Swaraj during her expected speech at UN today and ask her to agree to right to self-determination of Kashmiris.
Er Rasheed said, “If Nawaz Sharief could say yes to Plebiscite, it is mandatory on Sushma Sawaraj to respond positively and agree to right to self-determination for Kashmiris. If India claims to be the largest democracy in the world, what moral authority it has to crush the peaceful mass resistance in J&K.”
Er Rasheed condemned police action and said that Kashmir police seems to have forgotten completely its duties towards its own people and the fact that at the end of the day they can’t isolate themselves from the general masses of their own mother land. He asked J&K police to introspect and not force masses to turn their anger towards them.
