The current uprising in Kashmir has today completed 80 days- since the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani.
After a relaxation in the shutdown on Sunday after 2PM which witnessed huge number of people thronging to nerve center Lal-Chowk, the city came to grinding halt on Monday and observed complete shutdown on the Hurriyat leaders call.
The Lal-Chowk and other major towns of the valley witnessed complete as all the business establishments remained closed, traffic was off the roads.
Protests and clashes were reported at various places. Students of high schools and higher secondary schools of Bandipora protested against government saying they are ready to ‘sacrifice future for Kashmir’.
“We are ready to give our future for this freedom movement,” one protesting student said. As many as 9 people have been killed and over 15000 in the spontaneous clashes since July 8.
While all the roads continue to remain closed with barricades laid by the protestors at various places, the strategic Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, a key route for all essential supplies to the valley and carriage of fruit to outside markets, has been restored for the vehicular movement. Heavy deployment of forces has been put in place along the highway.
