Unseasonal rains and hailstorm has damaged acres of farmland in different villages of Tangmarg area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The worst affected is the paddy crop, apple orchards and vegetable farms which according to locals got heavily damaged. Several parts of Tangmarg villages including Kunzar, Gundmaqsood, Gundroshan, Khushipora, Dayil, Qazipora, Barkhama, Gotahama and Devar received heavy rainfall and hailstorm for 20 minutes on Wednesday morning destroying standing paddy crops and horticulture.
“Heavy rainfall with lightning and hailstorm lashed different villages of Tangmarg,” locals told news agency CNS adding that paddy sowed in the first week of June was ready for harvest. But the untimely rains and hailstorm destroyed it and are now most likely to bring down the output.
