Despite imposition of curfew in Shopian district today, hundreds of people marched towards Vihil village this morning to hold a pro-freedom rally. Reports reaching here said that locals of Vihil had planned a pro-freedom rally in the premises of a local Darasgah today.
However, police in a statement issued last night had said that curfew will be imposed in the area from this morning till evening. “Hundreds of people had reached Vihil rally venue,” local sources said, “preparations were going on for the freedom rally when forces raided the venue.”
They said that Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and police men attacked the venue in which at least Five civilians sustained injuries. “There is 62 RR camp in the vicinity of Vihil. RR men came from there who brought cutters along with them to clear the road blockade,” locals said, “trees were cut down to block the entry of forces and at many places, big rocks were placed on roads to make it difficult for forces to enter but they made the road motorable.”
Meanwhile, locals from Shopian town said that police made an early dawn announcements that curfew was imposed in the district. “Don’t come out, stay home, curfew has been imposed,” cops made announcement around 5 AM in Shopian, locals said.
