17 Indian Army men killed in Uri terror attack: Army’s Northern Command, reports PTI. The army death toll is the worst in Kashmir since a raid in December 2014, also near Uri, in which eight soldiers and three police were killed.
Sources said that militants stormed the army brigade headquarters at around 5:30 am triggering fierce gun battle between security personal and the militants.
“Loud explosions heard inside the army headquarters at Baramulla. Heavy gun fight breaks out between the holdup militants and army. It believed that three to four fiyadeen militants of LeT are involved in the attack on military brigade,” said the sources.
It is believed that they might have infilitrated freshly and then, carried out militant attack. The military commondos have zeroed in the encounter site and additional soldiers have been rushed to the spot.
Initially, the attack was understood to be at the 12 Brigade Headquarters but sources in the Army said it was at the rear formation of a battalion that was deployed at the Line of Control (LoC), reported PTI.
Pertinently, a well trained group of militants had also carried out attack in Poonch in which one police personel and four militants were killed.
