The people made a beeline outside the Reliance JIO office in Srinagar hoping to get a device or a 4G sim card to experience the fast speeds that have become talk of the town everywhere in the Valley.
The valley, which has been reeling under severe unrest and deaths for 64 days now, has for a larger period remained disconnected due to curbs put in to control the situation that went out of hand. The mobile phone connections barring post-paid services had not been working for a long period and internet services remained disconnected too.
The curbs on communication were removed recently and the corresponding results can be seen in the Rajbagh, the people had reached the Reliance JIO office in Rajbagh, on bikes and scooties, to get the free 4G sim card, when enquired there, a youth said, requirement for getting the SIM card is, you have to fill a form, with 5 passport photos annexed with it, identity card or election card. The youth said I have been In que from 9 a.m in the morning, it was a hectic job to get a sim card. The quarbani rush for Sims was seen as if sheep were sold there, there it looked like a festival, from all sides of city people had reached there.
The activation of sim card on the day of Idd ul Zuha, is the new form of activation quarbani.
