Man did not die due to shelling, miscreants burnt school in Kulgam: Police
Police in Kulgam have denied that the death of a man in Chawalgam village of Kulgam yesterday was due to tear smoke and sound shelling in the area.
People in the area had alleged that the sound of shells fired in the area triggered a cardiac arrest to 65 year old Abdul Gani Wani killing him in spot.
The police however maintained that the man died in the morning and clashes and shelling took place in the area in afternoon.
“The man died between 8 and 9 am yesterday and the clashes took place in the area after 2 PM,” SP Kulgam Sreedhar Patil told Rising Kashmir.
He said that some “miscreants” also tried to torch the local rest house but prompt action by police saved the building and fire was doused within 5 minutes.
Patil also refuted the claims of a school burning in Mirhama area of the district due to police shelling.
“It was some miscreants who set it ablaze,” Patil said, “We made sure the flames are doused without causing major damage.”
