Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today condemned in strong words thrashing of hospital staff by police at Barthana Qamarwari.
Expressing outrage President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said that such brute acts against medical staff is unacceptable.
“This act of hooliganism by defenders of law against healthcare workers while discharging their duties is shameful. Today, in the morning hours an ambulance driver was beaten mercilessly by cops at Qamarwari when he was carrying hospital staff of sub-district hospital Magam. Other staff members including females were also harassed and humiliated,” he said.
He said this pattern of atrocities against medical staff has become a new routine.
He said the medical personnel are not allowed to go for their duties and they face intimidation on regular basis.
“This systematic denial of care to sick and wounded is gross human rights violation. It is ironical that those who are supposed to protect have unleashed a reign of terror and subjugation against doctors and paramedical staff. Doctors and paramedics put in their blood and sweat to save sick and wounded and they are rewarded with abuses,” he said.
He said they risk their lives to reach duties under prevailing extreme conditions.
“These episodes have generated fear-psychosis among medical staff and it is difficult for them to work under such hostile conditions,” he said.
