The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) general secretary Moulana Abdullah Tari on Sunday expressed concern over the continuous imprisonment of party’s incarcerated chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah who is languishing in Rajbagh police station from last 50 days.
In a statement issued, Tari said prior to arrest, Shah has been under police detention or house arrest since last two years and during that period he was not even allowed to offer Fridayprayers.
“Shah Sahib’s health has been deteriorated a lot and the phone and internet connections of his house and office have also been disconnected since last month. His family particularly two young daughters are very much concerned due to the communication gag. Given the situation, the puppet State government should bear in mind that by resorting to cheap tactics of suppression, it cannot break the resolve of Shabir Ahmad Shah Sahib who has spent much of his life in jails,” Tari said.
Moulana while condemning the cruel tactics adopted by police and forces against the resistance leadership and people said the state agencies by making arrests during nocturnal raids have made the life of people a hell. “As per reports, even minors and elderly people are being arrested. At many places, brothers and fathers are arrested and families are harassed. This is shameful and condemnable,” he said.
The DFP general secretary said most of the party workers have been arrested. “The residence of Freedom Party’s Ishfaq Ahmad Kotwal in Islamabad was raided and his brother was arrested. Party’s Rouf Ahmad has been shifted to Kathua jail. Muhammad Akbar and Yawar Ahmad have also been arrested,” he said.
Castigating authorities over unleashing a reign of terror across the State, Tari said people are left so scared that a youth Shahbaz Ahmad Khatana jumped into the river near Sangam to save him from wrath of forces which led to his death. The J&K Police and Indian forces are directly responsible for his death,” Moulana Tari said.
