‘Green Reasi Mission’ launched by DDC
Jammu: As part of the ‘World Environment Day’ celebrations district administration Reasi launched the “Green Reasi Mission” today.
The mission was launched by District Development Commissioner Ravinder Kumar by planting of saplings at DC office complex, SP Office, Police Line and Gujjar-Bakarwal Hostel Talwara.
An oath to protect the trees and the environment was also administered to all present on the occasion.
DDC while speaking on the occasion informed that under the ‘Green Reasi Mission’ various activities to improve environment and generate mass awareness about environment conservation and greening of the region will be carried out throughout the district.
He said that it would include planting one tree by each Government employee under the theme ‘Each One Plant One’, conducting a plantation drive around all Government buildings and offices during Van Mahotsava Week, motivating the students regarding the Green Reasi mission and ensuring community participation by involving Panchayats. Development of Indigenous nurseries at various places to encourage people for plantation and protection of floral resources by involving companies like Northern Railways, KRCL, AFCONS, NHPC , NGOs and restoration of water ponds and water springs are some important activities that would be undertaken under the mission , he added.
Kumar further said that this mission is launched with a prime objective of improving biodiversity of the region and to ensure sustainable development of the ecologically fragile region which in turn, will help in soil and water conservation and thereby minimizing incidents of landslides and other related environmental problems. The aim of this mission also includes water conservation and recharging of water sources, which are depleting day by day, he added.
SSP Reasi, DFO besides officers of various departments were also present on the occasion.
