The family members of an ‘Imam’ from North Kashmir’s Kupwara district Tuesday appealed Commanding Officer 22 Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army stationed at Seelu Sopore to return back his identity card and cell phone which according to Imam’s family were snatched from him in the torture centre on 21 August this month.
Naseer Ahmed Sheikh son of Abdul Rasheed of Helmatpora Kupwara, an Imam at a local Masjid at Khanyar Srinagar was on way to his home when according to his family members he was stopped by Army men from 22 RR at Seelu Sopore and was forcibly taken into the Army camp. “Naseer was physically tortured by Army men inside the camp for no reasons. The torture marks on his body parts tells its own story, the story of pain, torture and oppression,” the family members of Imam said.
“After brutally torturing him, they directed a local driver to throw him far away from their camp. Our son is still bed ridden. The Army men before bundling him into a private vehicle did not return his Adhar Card and Cell Phone. We are scared that these men in uniform may misuse these items,” the maternal uncle of the victim Saifullah Khan said.
“We appeal to Commanding Officer 22 RR to return the cell phone and identity card of Naseer Ahmed,” the family members said.
When contacted Srinagar based Defence Spokesperson Colonel NN Joshi said he would look into the matter.
