Kargil, 25 November 2018: Zojila pass is the lifeline for the people of this region. Zojila is located at an altitude of about 12,000 ft and is the fourth highest pass in the country.
In a notification issued on Thursday, Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Baseer Ahmad Khan, while citing the report received from the Ganderbal Deputy Commissioner regarding bad weather and slippery condition near Zojila which could endanger life and property,
Due to snow fall at National highway Zojila pass the entire region remain cut off from state of Jammu and Kashmir via road itself.the people are facing shortage of food stuff and other basic essentials ,but the irony is that government seems unconcerned about the people of Leh and Kargil.
Due to the closure of Zojila pass kargil,Leh remains cut-off from Kashmir and rest of the world for around five to six months every year. During these months, people of the region are left with no other option but to live in the “freezing open prison” in life-threatening condition. (Mansoor Hosan Beigh)
