Srinagar, Apr 24 : Four Jaish militants, one policeman and an Army trooper were Tuesday killed in an encounter that raged between forces and militants in Laam Aripal village of Tral area in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said.
Police said that all the four militants who were affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad were killed in an encounter at Lamm area of Tral today.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Awantipora, Muhammad Zahid informed sources that four Jaish militants include top Jaish commander, Omar Khalid was replaced Mufti Waqas, Ashfaq Ahmad Khan, Yasir a foreigner who was the area commander of Tral and the fourth one was Abid Maqbool who had joined militancy before one and a half month.
Saying that the operation that was carried out jointly by police, 48 RR and CRPF was very difficult, the SSP said that the two among the slain militants were very important.
“The operation started at around 6:30 and concluded at around 05:00 pm,” he informed, adding that the bodies of the militants have been retrieved.
Earlier, Police said that a cop identified as Latif Gojri and an Army trooper as Ajay Kumar were also killed in the encounter.
“We pay out tribute to policeman Latif Gojri whom we lost today at Tral. We stand by with the family of our martyr who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty,” Kashmir zone police tweeted.
“Our tribute to army jawan Ajay Kumar who attained martyrdom at Tral today in the line of duty,” police said in another tweet.
Meanwhile, wrath laying ceremony of the slain cop was held at District Police Line Awantipora during which floral tributes were paid to Latif.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Range, Swayam Prakash Pani also paid floaral tributes to the slain cop at DPL Awantipora.
“Wreath laying ceremony of police official Latif Gojri held at DPL Awantipora ….. Floral tributes paid to the Martyr,” police tweeted. (KNS)
