SRINAGAR: Director General of Police, S P Vaid on Sunday said the ‘Operation All Out’ doesn’t mean to just kill the militants but to restore normalcy by bringing them back with the cooperation of people.
“It is a misunderstanding that the Operation All Out is aimed at killing the armed youth. They are our own children, we have to get them back with the cooperation of people,” DGP said in a press conference here at Police Control Room.
He said 75 youth, who were swayed by the misinformation spread on social media by elements inimical of peace, were stopped from joining militancy while seven militants had shun the path of violence and returned back to their families.
“206 militants were killed this year,” he added.
When asked many youth continue to join the militant ranks, the DGP said the trend is slowing down. “It is a downward trend,” he said and expressed hope that “with people’s cooperation, the normalcy will return to valley”.
He also hailed the J&K Police for doing the “commendable job” in fighting militancy, drugs and maintenance of law and order.
