‘He was involved in Amarnath yatra attack on July 10’
Police today said that LeT Commander Abu Ismail and his associate, who were involved in the Amarnath yatra attack in July, were killed this evening at Aribagh, Nowgam in Srinagar outskirts.
According to the correspondent, addressing a press conference at PCR, IGP Munir Khan said that police had “specific information” about presence of the two militants hiding in a house in Nowgam.
“Two hiding terrorists were killed in very brief encounter without any collateral damage,” Khan said, adding two AK 47 rifles, UBGLs and other ammunition was recovered from the slain militants.
The IGP said that the two militants were identified as Abu Ismail, who was LeT commander, and Abu Qasim aka Chotta Qasim.
The press conference was jointly addressed by IG CRPF Ravideep Sahai, and army commander.
8 yatries were killed and 20 others were injured in the attack on Amarnath yatries at Khanabal in Anantnag on July 10, which evoked wide condemnation.
The IGP said that the operation was carried out jointly by army, CRPF and police in a coordinated manner.
“We were after these killers of yatries after they carried out the attack on July 10,” he said. (KNS)
