The renowned woman cricketer and the coach from Jammu and Kashmir, Roopali Slathia has become the very first Woman Cricket Coach of Jammu and Kashmir State to successfully complete Re Level-B course organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in collaboration with Cricket Australia (CA) at NCA, Bangalore. This course is equivalent to the Australian Level 2 that has got an international accreditation.
While talking with PTK Roopali says, this course has been her best achievement not only in terms of knowledge and skills, but she got to meet many cricket stars along with Indian test cricket legends like WV Raman and Narendra Hirwani, besides getting trained by the International faculty from Australia.
Roopali successfully did her Level-B in the year 2011 at RCA, Jaipur and then went for refresher course at NCA, Bangalore in 2013.
Roopali started her cricketing carrier in her early teen age. Making great impact with bat and ball, she made herself to play her first junior national at the age of 15 as top order bats-woman turned all-rounder. She has played Junior and Senior State, Senior Zone, National level cricket number of times and has been serving the game not only as a player but as a very successful coach too. She has attained greater heights in coaching department at Zone level cricket.
During her Level-B course from NCA, Bangalore, she was the only female intern out of the chosen top four coaches for the National level camp.
Roopali told PTK, “Jammu and Kashmir has got tremendous potential to rule the game but the infrastructure in the state needs to be developed on fast track basis”.
Roopali, currently working in Youth Services & Sports department, Jammu as a physical education lecturer, aims to produce and nurture more and more capable girls from J&K state to shine on national level and represent India in international cricket too.
