Police and security forces have thwarted a major terrorist action by killing two militants in an encounter in Sopore area of North Kashmir today morning.
An information was received that militants were travelling in a vehicle and were planning some terrorist action in Sopore area, police and security forces immediately swung into action and intercepted them near Amrgarh Sopore. While being challenged terrorists lobbed a grenade and fired upon police party in which SP operation Baramulla Shri. Shafqat Hussain and a Sub Inspector of Police Mohammad Murtaza were injured. In the retaliatory action two militants were killed whose identity is being ascertained.
Two AK series rifles, one pistol,4 hand grenades and other arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site. With the elimination of these militants a major terrorist action was averted.
The slain militants have been identified as Azhar Khan of Kupwara and Sajad Lone of Sopore, both senior commanders of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and were involved in many terrorist activities.
Sajad of Eidipora Bomai Sopore was an active militant of HM who had gone to Pakistan in March 2016 on passport and infiltrated to take command of HM in Sopore.
