Poonch : Authorities on Thursday reopened historic Mughal road, connecting twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri with Shopian, for traffic.
The vehicles were permitted to move after snow clearance work was completed on the thoroughfare, officials said. The road had been closed for nearly four days after fresh snowfall around Pir Ki Gali.
DySP Traffic Rajouri-Poonch Range, Aftab Bukhari confirmed to GNS the opening of the road for traffic. “Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, vehicular movement shall be allowed from both sides on Mughal road viz from Shopian towards Poonch and vice versa (on Friday),” traffic department said.
In view of winter season and frost on road, it said, LMVS will be released from Behramgalla (Buffliaz), Poonch towards Srinagar at 0900 hours upto 1600 hours and from Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch at 1000 hours upto 1600 hours. “However, HMVs will be released from Behramgalla, Buffliaz (Poonch) towards Srinagar at 1000 hrs. upto 1200 hrs. and from Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch shall be allowed after the tail of up Convoy crosses Dubjan area and shall allowed upto 1600 hrs,” it said, adding, “ No vehicle shall be allowed before and after cut off timings”.
Regarding Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road , it said, subject to fair weather and road clearance, only one way traffic from Srinagar towards Kargil shall be allowed on Friday. “These vehicles shall be allowed from Sonamarg at 1000 hrs. LMVs followed by HMVs upto No vehicle shall be allowed before and after cut off timings.” (GNS)
