Srinagar: Police along with security forces arrested three uncategorised militants in Handwara and recovered incriminating materials including arms and ammunition from their possession.
A police spokesman in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “Police along with Army (21RR) and CRPF (92Bn) at a checkpoint established at Fruit Mandi Crossing Handwara intercepted 03 persons who on seeing the checking party tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully. They have been identified as Manzoor Ahmed Kumar son of Aziz Kumar resident of Sagipora and Showkat Ahmed Bhat son of Mushtaq Ahmed resident of Khanu Babagund. However, the identification of the third arrested militant has been withheld as his age is being verified.”
“On their personal search, incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including one Pistol, one Pistol Magazine, seven Pistol rounds and two grenades were recovered from their possession,” police said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested trio was tasked to carry out militant attacks in Handwara and cause loss of life and injuries to the public and disrupt peace in the area, police said, adding that the timely and swift action by the joint team has prevented the militants from carrying out the mischievous activities.
In this regard, a case under FIR number 213/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Handwara and investigation has been initiated, police said—(KNO)
