New Delhi:The 20-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic on Tuesday said that he would sacrifice taking part in competitions than get vaccinated against Covid-19. Speaking on whether he is willing to sacrifice competitions such as Wimbledon and the French Open over his stance on the vaccine, Djokovic said, “Yes, that is the price that I’m willing to pay.” In an interview with BBC, the World No 1 tennis player said he was never against vaccination but supported the freedom to choose “what you put in your body”. “Because the principles of decision making on my body are more important than any title or anything else. I’m trying to be in tune with my body as much as I possibly can,” he said. “I was never against vaccination. I understand that globally, everyone is trying to put a big effort into handling this virus and seeing, hopefully, an end soon to this virus,” he pointed out. Last month, Australia’s immigration minister Alex Hawke had cancelled Djokovic’s visa as he had not declared his vaccination status. He was denied entry in Australia and spent days in the immigration detention. Later, a court had ordered his release from the detention. UNI BAV RNJ
