POONCH: Three persons were killed while eight others were injured in a road mishap in border district of Poonch in Jammu region on Thursday evening.
A police officer said that a vehicle (Tata Sumo) bearing registration number JK12-1679 over turned and rolled down into a deep gorge at Tali Mohar in Uchhad Village of Mendhar at around 8:15 pm.
“Eleven persons boarding in the vehicle was on the way from Uchhad to Upper Uchhad to attend a marriage function when the mishap occurred”, the officer said.
In the tragic incident, all the eleven persons received injuries and were immediately evacuated by the rescue team to Sub district hospital Mendhar where three persons succumbed to injuries, the officer said.
The deceased have been identified as Mohd Umar (20) s/o Said Akbar, Mohd Nasir (26, driver) s/o Mohammad Sadiq and Murtaz Arif (15) s/o Mohammad Arif .
Among those who were hurt, three critically injured persons Ramzan Ashraf (17) s/o Mohd Ashraf, Shahid Sadiq (12)s/o Mohd Sadiq and Mohd Showkat (44) s/o Akbar Hussain were referred to GMC Jammu for specialised treatment, the officer said.
He said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigations taken up, the officer added. (GNS)
