A Special Police Officer (SPO) and his 11-year-old son was injured after suspected militants opened fire upon them at Hanjin village of Kralgund in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday evening.
SDPO Handwara Shabir Khan said that the militants barged inside the house of the SPO, Mohammad Altaf Khan, and opened indiscriminate fire. In the incident, Altaf and his minor son Waqif Altaf received bullet injuries.
Both the injured have been shifted to nearby hospital for treatment, the officer said. Waqif, he said, has suffered head injury and his condition is stated to be critical.
Soon after the incident, a joint team of police, SOG, army and CRPF arrived on the spot and launched searches to nab the assailants. (GNS)
