While speaking on the occasion DGP said drug addiction and substance abuse affects the capabilities and energies of the youth and it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to work together and eradicate the growing menace, which has risen to an alarming level in modern society.
He further said, “we would have to address the major reasons which lead the youth to take drugs, besides de-addicting the drug users”. Drug abuse makes the youth dependent, incapable to face the challenges and finally costs their life, DGP added.
The DGP disclosed that Jammu and Kashmir Police, realising its social responsibility has taken initiatives for the physical and mental development of the youth of the State. Besides it’s professional duties JKP has been working for drug de-addiction and such centres are already operational in Jammu and Srinagar.
The de-addiction centre of Udhampur will be equipped with proper infrastructure to treat drug addicts as patients. All technical support will be provided by Police and medical, para-medical staff including the psychiatrists would be made available for treatment and counselling of the patients”, he added. Besides that, a full fledged gymnasium with yoga facilities would also be constructed adjoining DDC for channelizing the energies of affected youth.
DGP stressed for joint efforts by all stakeholders to overcome the menace and save the youngsters from drug consumption, which also leads to other evils and crimes.
