‘New Delhi using NIA as a ‘tool’ to suppress Kashmiris’
The normal life in Kashmir was affected on Monday in the backdrop of the shutdown call by traders and transporters and Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) against what they called highhandedness of National Investigation Agency (NIA).
All the business establishments, shops remained closed while public traffic was also off the roads. The commercial hub Lal-Chowk wore a deserted look with deployment of forces seen at various key junctions.
Restrictions were placed in five police jurisdictions of Old city here, to prevent any possible protests.
The Traders and transporters had called for Kashmir Bandh as a mark of protest against the NIA notice to Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) chief Yasin Khan. Khan was summoned to Delhi today. The NIA also summoned a PhD scholar of Kashmir University, Aala Fazil.
The Joint Resistance Leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had also supported the strike call.
The JRL said that New Delhi was using NIA as a “tool and weapon” to suppress the freedom struggle of Kashmiris. (KNS)
