Punjab has won the First Sher-e-Kashmir Memorial Day and Night Volleyball Tournament played at Khari Tehsil Headquarter in Banihal and lifted the trophy as also cash prize of Rs 50,000.
The final match was played in commemoration of the 35th death anniversary of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah late last evening, which was witnessed by thousands of people of the peripheral villages.
Several reputed teams of Punjab, Chandigarh, Anantnag, Baramulla and other parts of the state participated in the tournament, which generated enthusiasm among the sports lovers of the area, especially youth.
Complementing the participating teams as also the winners and runner up teams, District National Conference President Mr Sajjad Shaheen said that this will be annual feature to promote Volleyball alongside other sports in the district.
“Such events are befitting tribute to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah who strived all his life for overall development of youngsters and channelizing their energies in productive manner alongside academics”,
Shaheen said and hoped that the young people of area will always show the same spirit which they demonstrated in holding Sher-e-Kashmir Volleyball Tournament. He lauded the Block NC Committee Khari for making elaborate arrangements for the tournament. (PTK)
