Union Minister Hansraj Gangaram Ahir Wednesday expressed satisfaction over the security situation in Kashmir following the killing of seven Amarnath yatris in an attack in south Kashmir.
Addressing a news conference here, Ahir said after conducting a security review meeting with the civil and security administration, he was satisfied with the security situation in Kashmir.
The Union MoS Home said he had also met Governor Narinder Nath Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and discussed the security situation with them.
“Both the Government of India and the State government are serious about the security situation,” he said.
Stressing that government had been fighting militancy for the past 30 years and Amarnath yatra had been going on unhindered all these years, Ahir said this year the government had taken more measures for the smooth conduct of yatra.
“The number of yatris visiting Amarnath cave shrine has been increasing as the situation is better,” he said. “Such incidents should not happen in future.”
The MoS Home said that after the attack, the Road Opening Parties (RoPs) had been instructed to continue patrolling until late in the evenings.
Lauding Kashmiris for deploring the attack on yatris, he said he was happy to see that everyone in Kashmir had condemned the killings and nobody had supported the incident.
He also appreciated Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for handling the situation after the attack well by meeting the injured and sending them back to their home states in aircraft.
Ahir also lauded the doctors of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) for saving a bullet-hit woman by successfully performing an operation on her.
Referring to the overnight gunfight in Redwora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, he said he had met a team of troops and paramilitary forces who had killed the three militants in the gunfight and promised them all type of help.
