‘Authorities fail to start work on water supply scheme’
The residents of Bukhari Colony in Sholipora area of Budgam on Tuesday staged protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) for ‘failing to provide them adequate water supply’.
The residents mostly women took to streets and blocked the main Sholipora-Waterhail road in the district to press the authorities over their demands.
The blockage of the road resulted in traffic mess in the area.
Witnesses said that a number of vehicles were seen stranded on the road.
“The authorities last year announced a water supply scheme for the locality but unfortunately the work over the project is yet to be started. Around 70 pipes are rusting in the area and these are not being installed,” the protesting residents said.
They said that with the delay in starting the work over the project, they are facing immense hardships. “We are not getting adequate water supply./ We have been assured that the scheme would redress our genuine grievances but unfortunately, the government is ignoring our plights thereby leaving us to suffer,” they added.
The residents said that threatened to launch agitation. “We are protesting against the failures of department since Monday. In case authorities fail to fulfil our demands, we will take streets against them,” they added.
They later appealed authorities to look into their sufferings and redress their genuine grievances at earliest so that they could feel a sigh of relief.
