Amid pro freedom slogans thousands attends last rites
Two militants were killed in a gun fight with security forces in Sopore of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The slain militants identified as Aijaz Ahmad Mir and Basharat Ahmad Sheikh belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen. Police said that the killed militants were behind yesterday’s attack on a police party.
“Yesterday, a grenade attack was carried out on a police deployment party in Sopore town in which four policemen were injured,” Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, S P Vaid told reporters here. DG said that the description of assailants and CCTV footage helped in identifying and arresting two persons, including one who had hurled the grenade at the police party.
He said during interrogation, the arrested persons provided information about the hideout of the militants. “The security forces laid a cordon around the area. As they were closing in on the house where the militants were hiding, they opened fire. The security forces retaliated leading to gunfight in which two militants were killed”, he said.
Meanwhile thousands of people, including men and women attended the last rites of two slain militants in their native villages. Huge number of people including men and women who attended the last rites of both the militants were mourning their killing.
Amid pro freedom and Islamic slogans Aijaz was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Brath Kalan village while the funeral of Basharat was held at Bomai playground. Meanwhile parts of Sopore observes shutdown to mourn the killing of slain militants.
