‘Those who take to violence will be held accountable’

Srinagar, May 19 (KNS): Union finance minister Arun Jaitley Friday said that the Jammu and Kashmir state has complete right to implement Goods and Services Tax in the state.
“Jammu and Kashmir assembly has the complete right to implement GST in the state,” Jaitley said in a press conference at SKICC here, as per KNS correspondent.
The finance minister said took a dig that those opposing the implementation of GST are talking against the common people.
“Those who are opposing implementation of GST are actually against the people because consumers of the state have to give double tax. First, they have to give tax on inputs and then on final products because if GST is not implemented here then they won’t get the input credit,” Jaitley said.

On Thursday, state’s Finance minister Dr Hasseb A Drabu had told KNS that Jammu and Kashmir will hold a special assembly session within 30 days to make changes that are needed before GST is implemented in the state.
Today, Drabu termed the GST Council as India’s first federal institution, Minister of Finance and Labor and Employment, and said the new tax regime will pave way for cooperative federalism in the country.
“The GST will bring major changes in fiscal and political side of India’s federal structure because of which coercive federalism will pave way for cooperative and competitive federalism,” Dr Drabu said while speaking at a Roundtable of the Finance Ministers organised by the financial newspaper The Mint at Royal Springs Golf Course here today.

While speaking about violence, Jaitley said that those people who resort to violence will be taken into account for their activities.
“Terrorism and militancy are aimed against the Indian state and its sovereignty, and also against the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The effect of their actions is that besides security personal, local citizens are also losing their lives. And those who take to violence of this magnitude will certainly be accountable for their actions.
“Jaitley, who also holds the Defence ministry portfolio, told reporters, as per KNS correspondent, that those who are killing people have to be treated as a “serious insurgency problem and dealt with accordingly”.
The GST conference was held for two-days at SKICC in which finance ministers and top finance officials from all the states participated.
