‘They were tasked to disrupt polls’
Police on Monday claimed to have busted a Hizbul Mujahideen module tasked to disrupt upcoming bye elections and said it arrested seven of its members in Kulgam district.
Addressing a press conference, SP Kulgam Shridhar Patil said that police received specific intelligence last week Tuesday that the Hizbul Mujahideen has constituted a module and tasked it to carry out attacks on government forces and disrupt election process.
He said that accordingly the police registered a case and arrested module’s “king pin” namely Zubair Ahmad Badar from Nai Basti locality of Qaimoh after his name came to fore during probe. The SP said that police also recovered some arms and ammunition including a pistol from his possession.
“During his questioning, we came to know about his associates and among them till now six have been arrested and we expect more arrests,” Patil said and claimed that the aim of the module was to target government forces including senior cops and kill them ahead of elections.
The SP told the media men that the self-styled district commander of the Hizb Altaf Dar alias Al-Kachroo and Tauseef Sheikh alias Mossad have constituted the module keeping in view the elections. “The busting of module is a big achievement for us. Their aim was to disrupt elections,” he said.
