Police have detained two dozen persons including a 65 year old man during nocturnal raids in poll-bound south Kashmir’s Pulwama and Kulgam district, sources said Tuesday.
According to official sources, police after identifying youth involved in anti-India protests and clashes, raided their houses at Murran and Kangan areas of Pulwama district during night and arrested 21 persons, including a 65 year old man.
As per GNS correspondent, police detained Umar Farooq Dar, Mohmmad Amin Dar (50) Saqib Javid, Aqib Gul, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Mushtaq Ahmad Wagay, Ajaz Ahmad Sheikh, Firdous Ahmad Dar, Waqar Younis Sheikh, Abid Hussain Ganie, Samer Ahmad Sheikh, Tariq Ahmad Khan, Zeashan Bashir, Bashir Ahmad Rather, Sheikh Irshad, Abdul Rahim Sheikh (65) Mir Firqan, Mudasir Ahmad Yatoo, Irshad Ganie, Javid Abdullah and Sameer Ahmad Itoo.
The locals of the Kangan and Murran areas said that police detained “fathers and uncles in lieu of some of the youth who have gone underground”. “It is ironical that a 65 year old man has also been arrested by police,” they said. Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Murran area against the ‘mass arrests’. All the shops and commercial units remained closed in Murran and adjoining localities.
Reports reaching here said that three more youth were arrested from Kulgam district by police on similar stone-pelting charges.(GNS)
