Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga stressed upon youth to make sports as essential part of life.
The Minister was speaking on the concluding ceremony of Marathon ‘Run for Fun’ organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police under its Civic Action Programme at Gulshan Ground, here today.
‘Sports is a best medium to channelize energies of youth in a right perspective besides saving them from being caught in the web of social evils,’ he said.
About 400 players from Baramulla, Budgam, Shopian, Kupwara, Bandipora, Rajouri, Poonch, Kathua and Doda districts participated in the event.
The Minister said that such events with the participation of sportsmen and people from different parts of state will immensely help in further cementing the bonds of brotherhood, amity and communal harmony.
Ganga congratulated the youth for taking an active part in event, saying that government is making all round efforts to upgrade and develop sports infrastructure in the state so as to provide avenues to the youth to excel in sports sector.
Lauding the role of Jammu and Kashmir Police in maintaining peace in State, the Minister said that it always remained on forefront to safeguard the integrity of nation, ensuring security of the people besides eradicating crime from the society. “Apart from its professional duties, the force has also contributed in the sports arena to inspire youth towards sports,” Minister said.
Ganga hailed the efforts of JKP for organizing such activities and hoped that the organization would hold similar event in future too.
Later, the Minister gave away cash prizes and certificates to the winners and participants from all categories who participated in the Marathon “Run for Fun”.
Among others, the function was attended by Director General of Police, S.P Vaid, ADGP, Commandants of Armed/IRP Battalions and other police officers. (PTK)
