Srinagar, Mar 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief and parliament by-poll candidate from Anantnag seat, G A Mir on Thursday said free and fair elections are imperative at present.
Mir said, “The free and fair by-elections at present are must as it will clear the credibility of state government and Election Commission.”
He said that they hope there would be no involvement of administration in the by-polls. “There are quite apprehensions regarding the involvement of administration in the by-polls. In case there will be involvement of administration, we won’t act as mute spectator at that time,” he added.
Mir said that the involvement of administration in the by-polls, slated to be held on April 09 and 12would expose the government and ECI internationally.
Meanwhile, JKPCC chief said that the former chief minister Omar Abdullah’s statement wherein he had said that opposition should forget 2019 elections and should start preparing for 2024 elections was not applicable for the state Jammu and Kashmir. “The statement of Omar Abdullah was not applicable for the upcoming elections. The politics and the issues in the state are quite different unlike other states of India,” he added.
Mir said that the people particularly from South Kashmir are politically mature and know what they have to choose in the future. “The promises made by the incumbent government with the people of Kashmir especially to the people of South Kashmir have proven hoax on the ground as not even the single promise has been fulfilled,” he added.
