Intermittent rainfall and snow lashed Kashmir Valley on Wednesday even though Meteorological Department predicted for next two days while Srinagar—Jammu National Highway remained closed today.
A Meteorological Department official said that light to moderate rains lashed Kashmir
The day temperature in Srinagar plunged by several notches and it was recorded 5.8 degree Celsius while Qazigund recorded 3.5 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature in Pahalgam was recorded 2.4 degree Celsius, 4.4 in Kupwara, 4.8 in Kokernag, 0.5 in Gulmarg, 5.3 in Leh and 3.2 in Kargil.
Owing to snowfall, rains and landslides, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was closed today for the vehicular movement from both regions. There were landslides and shooting stone at different places along Banihal-Ramban stretch including at Battery Cheshma. The Traffic Department officials said that the clearance is underway but the rains are hampering the operations.
Due to closure of the strategic highway connecting Kashmir with rest of the India, hundreds of trucks got stranded at many places at Udhampur and Qazigund sectors.(GNS)
